The first house on the Palm Springs Modern Home Tour was Frey’s Loewy House.
As a note to those just arriving to the show, I am but a humble mechanical engineer. That I can communicate without symbols and graphs merely shows a freakish ability much like being double-jointed. As such, my knowledge of these designers is cursory at best. Any polish put forth here is suspect to be copied, half digested and regurgitated–incorrectly. You have been warned.
One of the most striking things about this house is the landscape. It is set upon a declining plane of boulders. The woman, upon seeing this breathtaking landscape, noted that this is exactly what she would like the outside of our house to be. Unfortunately we live in an area of the country where things grow. All of those irrigation sprinklers that bring water to every single thing in Palm Springs would, if transplanted to the environs of Ohio, have to replace water with Round Up. Things grow here against every intention. Deserts have no such worry.
My Great Lakes mindset was further on display with my reaction to the pool. Well, it ventures into the living space! What is the contingency for when the water freezes, the mind pooted forth! Again, probably not a basic design constraint in Palm Springs. Noted. Be prepared, dear reader, for this reaction to spring forth repeatedly on our journey.
The highlight of the house, of course, was the ever-present watchfulness of Godzilla. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
